TWO DOWN, FIVE TO GO!
Congratulations to everyone that made it through the first two books, and special congratulations to Lauren and Becky who won the the first two prize drawings! This is the first readathon I've ever put on, and so far it's been going so well! I love how much interaction there has been between you guys, and I'm having so much fun asking questions and getting into some in-depth Potterverse questions!
Here are some highlights and pictures from the first two books:
Here are some of your beautiful photos...
Lingering thoughts on Book One:
Lee Jordan's commentary on Quidditch matches is so good, I'll always be sad it never made it into the movies!
I know at least one of you mentioned how much you enjoy the Norbert plot-line but I have a lot of trouble reading it always! It just seems incredibly irresponsible of Hagrid, I know that's part of who he is, but it's absolutely crazy that he thinks he's going to raise a dragon in his house! I also have a hard time with it because, if I'm being completely honest, I used to be OBSESSED with the Sorcerer's Stone Gameboy game, and there's NO WAY to not get caught coming back down the Astronomy tower in the game and I always got so frustrated trying to beat it!
On this read through, I also started considering the parallel between Neville and Harry. I think about it a lot in the last book, how everything could have been different, but it's really interesting to compare them at the beginning. The part when Dumbledore awards the extra 10 points to Neville with the line, "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends," makes me cry every time. This is SUCH A BEAUTIFUL STORY you guys.

Lingering thoughts on Book Two:
I caught something this go around that I've never noticed before, and I think it's because, like I said, Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite and subsequently my least read. BUT when I read it this time, the Borgin and Burkes scene stuck out. Malfoy is in there with his dad AND EVERYTHING HE USES IN THE SIXTH AND SEVENTH BOOK.
The vanishing cabinet is there. The cursed necklace. The Hand of Glory. OH MY GOD. It was all there the whole time. Mind. Blown.
Also, I HATE LOCKHEART. He is so frustrating to read. Obviously Umbridge is the worst Hogwarts teacher because she is pure evil incarnate, but Lockheart is so terrible.
I also HATE the Aragog scene. It scares me and I don't like spiders and AGAIN Hagrid sending them into the belly of the big hairy beast!
And finally, a random pondering: Ron and Hermione can't hear the Basilisk in the walls and Harry can because he's a Parseltoungue. BUT. Wouldn't they hear some sort of hissing? They just wouldn't be able to understand it like Harry would? I don't know, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about it.
Well, that's all for now, gotta get back to my book! I'm well invested in Goblet of Fire and I can't wait to recap the rest of these with you all! Keep tagging your photos, keep reading, and jump over to Twitter if you want to join the discussion thread!
